New Baby Greeting Cards
Hi! Welcome to my backyard garden. I created this web page to share
with fellow gardeners my efforts and my passion for gardening.
As you will see, I have a passion for Lilies and have recently become interested in the Hemerocallis or Daylilies.
I have been a graduate Horticulturist since 1982 and had the privilege of studying at Algonquin College in Ottawa, Canada.
While growing plants has been a life-long
interest, the knowledge I gained from my courses has been totally invaluable.
A couple of years ago I was bitten by the Lily bug. Not the red beetle that is now a common pest of Lily plants, but
the bug that causes an over- whelming fascination and desire for collecting true Lilies.
I bought my first Lily in the Spring of 2000.
Since then I have collected over 67 varieties of Orientals, 251 varieties of Asiatics and 154 mixed varieties from Trumpets, Species, Orientpets and more.
I recently started to try a few cross-pollinations of my own and am very excited to see the first Asiatic seedlings flower in a couple of years.
My newest fascination is with a related genus to the Lilies; namely the Daylilies or Hemerocallis.
These amazing plants have been called the perfect perennial. The Fall of 2003 saw my first real large purchase of Daylilies, and now in 2006 I have 240 in my collection.
As of the summer of 2006, I have begun my attempts at hybridization of Hemerocallis.
I can't wait to see the first results and share them with all of you!
To all experienced and novice gardeners: I hope you enjoy my galleries of garden flowers.
I will update the pictures with the new varieties when they come into bloom each summer.
But for now I wish you all great success in your own gardening efforts and I hope you use this web site as a reference guide to some truly spectacular flowers that can be grown with great success in the Ottawa Region.
With just some simple garden tools and the right tips, you can easily turn your garden into a success like I did.
To all of you: Happy Gardening! Feel free to contact me with questions or pictures of your own gardening efforts using the e-mail link at the bottom of the page.
